Diamond Build PLC has completed the second phase of works at the Anglo-Portuguese School of London (APSoL) in Wandsworth, London. The project is transforming part of South Thames College into a new £5.5m learning environment for the primary school.
The contract saw Diamond Build renovate classrooms for year one and provide new toilets and storage on the building’s first floor. The team is now carrying out pre-construction services for the final part of the renovation. This includes the construction of play decks, additional classrooms, specialist teaching areas and a dining hall.
Matthew Thomas, Operations Director for Diamond Build, said: “This is a logistically challenging project taking place in a Grade II listed building where the ground floor is occupied by children in reception.
“The renovation will require some demolition work. We are liaising with local heritage consultants to protect the building’s fabric and working closely with the school to minimise disruption.”
Owned by the Department for Education (DfE), APSoL is the first in England to provide a bilingual curriculum in English and Portuguese. At full capacity, the school will accommodate 420 children across all year groups.
