Two Haringey libraries are getting a makeover with the help of Diamond Special Works.

The contractor has been appointed to refurbish Alexandra Park Library and Wood Green Library on behalf of Haringey Council.

The first project will see Diamond Special Works fully refurbish the ground and first floors of Alexandra Park library and deliver externals works, including replacing the roof and windows.

Inside the building, the team will create a new lift to the first floor, which will require structural alterations to the existing staircase. To allow for more capacity in the library, the layout will be adapted through new partitions.

The fit out will see existing furniture enhanced, carpets replaced and both floors redecorated. Diamond Special Works will also oversee upgrades to the IT infrastructure.

The project is expected to take 22 weeks and the library will be vacated during the works.

At Wood Green Library, Diamond Special Works will be refurbishing office space on the second and third floors, and delivering new mechanical and electrical (M&E) systems. The work will be carried out while the library remains open to the public.

On the third floor, the whole area will be redecorated and furnishings replaced within just six weeks to minimise disruption. The upgrades to the second floor will require new joinery, partitions and ceilings which are scheduled to be completed in 12 weeks.

As part of the M&E package, the existing air handling units and extractor fans will be overhauled for the whole building, including testing and commissioning.

Paul Hoskins, Managing Director of Diamond Special Works, said: “The Council’s investment into these libraries will significantly enhance the environment and facilities for both the public and staff.

“Our specialist experience of refurbishing public buildings will ensure the work is delivered quickly and efficiently. At Wood Green library, measures will be put in place to minimise any disruption to the occupied building caused by the delivery and movement of materials, and to suppress potential noise and dust.”

Diamond Special Works has upgraded several libraries in recent years for local authorities in London, including Finsbury Library in Islington.
