Can you describe a typical day?

A key part of my daily role is reviewing our tenders. It’s my job to establish which ones are most aligned to both our service offering and our culture. Our focus is on working with clients that recognise the importance of a holistic approach to fire safety and are committed to ensuring their buildings are fully compliant.

Once those opportunities have been reviewed, I work with our estimating and bid writing teams to help answer any technical questions. If required, I also liaise directly with potential clients to help clarify their requests ensuring all parties are clear about what they want to achieve in terms of fire safety and our tender is the very best it can be.

Tim-Sawka _ General Manager

What skills do you need to do your job?

Knowledge of the construction industry is really beneficial. I started my career as a carpenter, so I already had a good understanding of the fabric of buildings, fire door installations and different fixing systems.

Fire safety is a broad and sometimes complex, area of construction so you also need to be up to speed on the latest legislation and what systems may be required, taking into account the whole building, its use and occupants.

Another key skill is the ability to assess and understand the growing number of new fire safety products that are coming to market, and how these could be used to develop more innovative solutions that achieve compliance.

Can you describe the Diamond Fire Safety team in three words?

Passionate. Diligent. Experienced.

What do you like most about working for Diamond Fire Safety?

There’s a fantastic atmosphere and team spirit, so a real sense of camaraderie. I also like the fact there is a broad mix of people here, including highly experienced construction professionals that have been with the company for many years plus apprentices, trainees and graduates across all disciplines. That means you’re never far from an experienced ear and can also benefit from the enthusiasm and new ideas that the younger generation brings.

I also like being part of the Diamond Build Group. It’s a progressive, dynamic business that continues to evolve.

What have been the team’s biggest achievements to date?

We’ve had a lot of success recently with framework agreements for both local authorities and housing associations. We’ve been appointed to a total of six with a further two in the pipeline and that’s testament to the specialist fire safety skills and advice we offer. These appointments add to a number of contract wins via open tenders.

I’m also proud of the way our team has responded to the challenges of the pandemic. We have worked closely with our clients to continue to provide an essential service in the safest and most efficient way possible.
