Diamond Build Group has been appointed for the final phase of refurbishment works at the Anglo-Portuguese School of London (APSoL).
The project will transform the east wing of South Thames College where APSoL is currently located. A total of 16 new classrooms across four storeys will be created for primary school children.
Diamond Build Group will strip out and reconfigure the college’s existing floorspace to create the new learning environment. External façade curtain walling will be removed, and new windows, partitions, ceilings and floor coverings installed along with a new mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) package.
To provide outdoor space for the children, Diamond Build Group will create play decks on each floor which open out onto an internal courtyard.
The school will also benefit from new toilets, a modern kitchen, and remodelled reception area.
Diamond Build Group is scheduled to be on site for 61 weeks.
Speaking about the contract, Natalya Tonkins, Business Development & Marketing Director for the Group, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded the next phase of works at APSoL. We appreciate how much it means to the school to benefit from more teaching space to continue to grow their intake and provide facilities for their students to thrive.
“This is a logistically challenging project, as we will be working in an occupied and constrained site on a one-way street. Stringent programming, site management, and communication with stakeholders will all be key throughout the project. Our team are highly experienced in this and are looking forward to getting started.”
APSoL is located in the heart of Wandsworth and is the first in England to provide a bilingual curriculum in English and Portuguese. At full capacity, the school will accommodate 420 children across all year groups.
Part of the building has already been converted by Diamond Build Group. This project involved the renovation of classrooms for year one as well the installation of new toilets and storage on the building’s first floor.
