Diamond Build Group has welcomed a new apprentice to its growing team.

Liam Tyman joins as a carpentry apprentice. Over the next two years, he will study towards a Level 2 in Carpentry and Joinery at West Herts College, while working across a variety of projects at Diamond Build.

A former construction labourer, Liam was inspired to become an apprentice after observing specialist tradespeople on site.

He explained: “I knew from watching the other trades that I wanted to do a more hands on role with the potential for learning and developing a career.

“A family friend told me about the apprenticeship opportunity at Diamond Build and I decided to go for it. I now spend four days on site and one at college, and I’m really enjoying the experience.

“Our team is currently refurbishing an empty property for a council and I’m responsible for a variety of tasks ranging from laying plywood on the floor through to building boxes for electrical wiring. I also get the chance to learn associated skills, including tiling, plumbing and flooring to broaden my construction knowledge.

“Every day, I get to learn something new, which I know I’ll be able to use throughout my career.”

Liam is one of seven apprentices at the Diamond Build Group, which has been providing training and apprenticeships for more than four decades. Opportunities are offered at all levels and for a variety of roles, including quantity surveying, site management, finance, and plumbing.

John Gray, Chairman of Diamond Build Group, said: “Apprentices keep our business thriving, so we seek to offer as many training opportunities as possible to people of all ages. As a carpentry apprentice, Liam is learning a specialist, and incredibly valuable, skill that will not only be a huge benefit to our team but enable him to build a successful construction career.

“Following a number of new contract wins, we are looking for more trade apprentices to join our Group and bolster teams working on a variety of public sector projects.”
