Following an in-depth tendering and selection process, Diamond Build was awarded the contract of the Refurbishment and Reconfiguration works to the Mother and Baby Unit, in the East Wing of Homerton Hospital.
There were many challenges to delivering these types of works, working within this busy operational Hospital. One of the main issues was noise. The Unit was in the vicinity of at least one minor Operating Theatre and even the smallest amount of noise was a problem. Therefore all noisy and heavy vibration works were carried out outside of normal working hours when the Theatres were not in use.
Our Phased Works included:
- Ward Refurbishment
- General building works
- Mechanical and Electrical works
- Plumbing works including installation of the new internal drainage system
- Creation of a new conservatory to be used as a communal lounge / seating area.
Health and safety was of course of paramount importance. Extensive hoarding with prominent signage was erected to segregate the works and ensure the safety of patients and visitors to the Hospital. Dust was kept to a minimum and cutting was carried out off-site wherever possible. The project was completed successfully on time and to cost and we also refurbished the main Hospital entrance area, externally and internally.
